Missed opportunities lead to a draw for Wilkinsons youngsters.

Missed opportunities lead to a draw for Wilkinsons youngsters.

Managers Mark Wilkinson and Russell Barnes feel frustration at dropping two points in tonight's game.

With many new faces for both teams tonight the game began lively with the ball being played into both halves. However in the 6th minute Bradley Spooner chipped a lovely floating ball from 25-yards out over the Yarmouth defence & over the head of a bemused goalkeeper, bouncing off the underside of the crossbar into the back of the net. A truly entertaining goal for the fans nicely taken by Bradley.

Chances then came thick and fast; a free-kick from Spooner again, saved by keeper Jordan Read on 9 mins. This was followed by some good work down the left wing from Alex Jary who kept the Yarmouth defence very busy. Jary set up Wroxham's next attack defending on half-way line and weaving through to pass to Angus Mackie whose shot just went wide on 15 mins.

Then Yarmouth's George Youseff forced a decent save from Dirk Dugdale. Wroxham kept pressing on the Yarmouth goal with shots from Jack Lincoln, Josh Gathergood, Spooner and Mackie either just wide or saved by the in-form Read.

The Bloaters then stepped up the pace, one shot going wide then Michael Pywell forcing Dugdale to save well. On 39 minutes good teamwork from Ed Abery, Lincoln and Tommy Knight almost doubled the score but Lincoln shot wide.

Half-time: Wroxham 1, Yarmouth 0.

The game resumed as it had ended with game moving from goal to goal with defenders Gathergood and Alex Philpott working well to deny a good attack from Yarmouth.

Newbie Luke Holland impressed with a shot well saved by Read on 52 mins. Aiden Wickham impressed with some good work down the right-wing creating some chances for Jary to shoot.

The game then started to get scrappy with Wroxham frustrated at missed chances and Yarnouth battling for a goal with five cautions in the last 20 mins. This play continued with the young Yachtsmen growing more disjointed and Yarmouth pushing harder until the 88th minute when striker Youseff levelled the score for the Bloaters. Wroxham tried hard in the dying minutes to regain the lead but the game finished at 1-1.

Managers Mark Wilkinson and Russell Barnes rued the many missed chances of the first half knowing that going in 2-0 up at half-time could have led to a much easier second half and a more desirable result.

Wilkinson said: "This game should have been put to bed in the first 20 mins. Numerous chances were not taken advantage of and a sucker-punch of a goal in the last few minutes lost us a valuable two points that could be vital as the season goes on".

Barnes displayed similar feelings about the result: "Not finishing the game in the first half and chances not taken in the second half gave a well-organised Yarmouth a lifeline which they took".

Next week's game is at home against Diss and it is hoped the lads can learn from this week's game and convert more of the opportunities they make.
