Yachtsmen stunned by late deflection

Yachtsmen stunned by late deflection

Chris Green28 Dec 2013 - 21:09

Wroxham’s dismal run of results continued with a 1-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Waltham Forest.

The only goal came in the 83rd minute when a long range shot was deflected off a Wroxham defender, looped over new ‘keeper Robert Juhasz and under the bar.
The Yachtsmen had ample chances to have won the game but squandered them and have now dropped to 21st place in the table.
In a poor first half neither side was able to impose themselves but both sides had clear chances.
Joe Marsden cut in from the left to curl a shot towards the far corner but Amadou Tangaru brought off a spectacular save to deny the Wroxham player on 5 minutes.
The Yachtsmen had a real let off when Leon Fisher was clean through but his shot cannoned off the post for Matt Halliday to clear.
On 17 minutes Wroxham had an amazing miss when Remy Gordon broke away and played the ball out to Sam Groves on the left. His cross found Marsden at the far post for a simple tap-in but somehow he contrived to hit the ball across goal and out of play.
A good cross by Gordon was sliced behind by Migual Pascal-Johnson but Wroxham were unable to make anything from the resulting corner.
A poor punched clearance by Slovakian Juhasz on his debut for Wroxham resulted in a stroke of luck for the keeper, as Hussein Isa planted his shot straight at him instead of the empty net.
Another mistake by Ben Price allowed Stephane Koffi a clear chance but Juhasz pulled off a brilliant save diving to his right.
Gordon created a good chance for himself which was wasted with a wild shot over the top at the end of the 1st half.

Early in the second half Marsden drifted across the penalty area to get in a low shot which was narrowly wide.
Again Marsden did well to get to the by-line and pull the ball back for Gordon whose 1st time shot brought a good save from the visiting keeper.
The game started to open up and Juhasz pulled off another fine save to deny Fisher on 65 minutes.
Wroxham had a wonderful chance to take the lead shortly after when Marsden set Gordon away who seemed certain to score but shot wide.
Again the two leading scorers for Wroxham combined and Marsden’s slick cross was just too far in front of his partner’s outstretched boot on 70 minutes.
In the next move Tangaru made another brilliant block save with his body to deny Marsden.
With both sides throwing caution to the wind it seemed that just the one goal would win the game. Unfortunately for Wroxham it fell to the visitors. With Jordan King off with cramp they pressed forward and a speculative shot by Stephane Koffi on 83 minutes, which Juhasz was well positioned for, took a deflection off a Wroxham player and looped over the unfortunate keeper and under the bar.
Wroxham had a final burst and Marsden’s cross brought a fine double save by Tangaru. With five minutes of injury time The Yachtsmen were driving forward to try to get something from the game and Gordon had another chance but shot over. Aaron Taylor also got on the end of a freekick but again his header was wide. Sam Harty tried his damndest with a typical burst forward but he also shot over and Marden got behind the Forest defence only to shoot wide again. In the last minute Harty had another chance to equalise but he was leaning back and shot over.
A disappointing result for the Yachtsmen who created more than enough chances to have won the game but now face a relegation battle.
