A professional performance saw the Yachtsmen gain three points and another clean sheet as they defeated Woodbridge 3-0 who had put six past Ely last Saturday.
The visitors started confidently as Tom Trevivian's shot after 3 minutes was spilled by Scott Howie but there was no one from the Woodpeckers to follow-up as Wroxham cleared the danger. Then a shot from centre-back Mark Roper wasn’t far off target.
Wroxham took the lead on 15 minutes with a well worked move. Ross Durrant made ground down the right to whip in a cross for Matt Blake, who was returning from injury, and he turned brilliantly to control the ball and create space before shooting past Tom Sills in the Woodbridge goal.
Wroxham then had to endure a period of pressure from the visitors who had a number of corners without unduly troubling the home defence. Team Boss David Batch was forced into having to make changes as first Gavin Lemmon went off with a back injury and then Blake twisted and pulled up with a repeat of the ankle injury that had kept him out for three weeks. Just before Blake had confidently won a challenge for the ball to set up Durrant whose first time shot hit the side netting. Matty Daniels replaced Lemmon and Ben Jones came on for Blake but the game became very scrappy with little cohesion from either side as passes went astray.
Woodbridge had Wroxham on the back foot at the start of the second half and thought they had an equaliser when Jay Hubbard’s long range shot was again spilled by Howie with Allician Blake appearing to take advantage and slip the ball into an empty net but he was adjudged to have been in an offside position as the ball came in. Wroxham took advantage two minutes later in the 50th minute when referee Steve Artis spotted a back pass to the keeper and awarded the home side a free-kick 10 yards out. Andy Eastaugh set up Matty Daniels who squeezed his shot inside the near post despite the Woodbridge wall encamped on the line.
Wroxham then scored a third in the 60th minute as Danny Self’s long throw set Daniels away who went past a defender to hit a superb low cross which was turned in at the near post by Andy Eastaugh who was happy to claim the goal afterwards for his eleventh of the season although there was suspicion it might have been off a Woodbridge defender.
At this stage Wroxham were threatening to overrun the visitors and the home side made their final substitution with Danny Boswell replacing Gary Gilmore. A neat pass from Ben Jones set Durrant free and his shot was well turned aside by the keeper.
There was a flurry of activity at the other end although Woodbridge rarely threatened the home goal again. Skipper Graham Challen was booked in the 89th minute for a robust challenge as Wroxham carved out a good win to put them four points ahead and a game in hand over their nearest rivals.
