Yachtsmen on their way to Carrow Road

Wroxham 4 Mulbarton 2

Wroxham booked their place in the Norfolk Senior Cup final after a dramatic contest played out in front of a packed crowd at the FDC on Wednesday evening.

After intense early Mulbarton pressure, the Yachtsmen took the lead. Asa McGeachy was fouled on the right, and from the resulting free kick Travis Dodsworth found Harvey Peters and the Yachtsman defender guided his header beyond the reach of the Mulbarton keeper.

However the Thurlow Nunn league team responded well and equalised on 33 minutes through a free kick from 25 yards which Owen Lane steered over the wall into the roof of the Wroxham net.

After half time Wroxham started well and regained the lead through a well placed volley from striker, Ryan Hawkins. However Mulbarton again reasserted themselves and Lane bagged his second goal, this time from a free kick which he curled into the corner of the Wroxham goal beyond the reach of George Potter.

Wroxham made their first substitution on 65 minutes, with Rio Abodunde replacing Harry Barker and the substitute was instrumental in creating Wroxham’s third goal. Abodunde’s cross from the right evaded the Mulbarton defence and there was Hawkins to head home at the far post.

Mulbarton ‘s best chance of equalising yet again came from a move down their right but Potter in the Wroxham goal parried the goal bound effort.

In the dying minutes , Hawkins, with a brace of goals to his name was replaced by Jordan Forbes. The referee indicated that there would be six additional minutes and as the clock was winding down, Wroxham finally put the game to bed. Ryan Miles collected the ball on Wroxham’s left, he outpaced the defence, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net.

After a season of struggling to climb out of the relegation places in Isthmian League North, the Yachtsmen now have an end of season bonus to look forward to, a cup final under the lights at Carrow Road where they will meet Norwich City’s Under 21s. The young Canaries booked their place on Tuesday evening defeating Dereham Town 2-0.
