Last Saturday the Yachtsmen secured three vital points from their home game against Basildon United. Rightly described as a ‘must win’ game, Wroxham were soon ahead, when Ryan Hawkins converted a spot kick after he was clattered in the penalty area by the visitors keeper. Within minutes Basildon were further hampered when they were reduced to ten men, the referee showing no hesitation in producing a red card for a foul on the Wroxham striker.
Two second half goals from Ryan Miles and Craig Parker secured the victory that put clear distance between Wroxham and the four clubs currently filling the relegation places.
With five games to go in the season , the Yachtsmen go on their travels on the next two Saturdays. Next Saturday they play on Canvey Island, Essex against mid table Concord Rangers, and on Saturday April 12th they travel to Suffolk to play Ipswich Wanderers. Last Saturday’s results mean that Ipswich Wanderers are already consigned to relegation, with five games remaining they cannot amass sufficient points to exit the drop zone.
The next home game at the Ginger Pickle Arena at Trafford Park is on Good Friday (Kick Off 3pm) when the visitors are the current league leaders, Brentwood Town.
