Reserves Player Of The Season: Jamie George

Reserves Player Of The Season: Jamie George

Wroxham Insider15 May 2012 - 21:38

Reserve team boss Laurence York gives his reasons why Jamie George, 19, was his choice for the reserves Player of the Season.

"It has been an exciting season to be involved with Wroxham Football Club. The improvements, if you have visited the ground, are clear to see.

However the improvements behind the scenes from playing staff all the way through to committee level has also been an amazing transformation.

This is down to good planning, ensuring that the club is not just ok for this season or even next season but installing a plan that is going to stand the club in good stead for years to come.

With this said the reserve team has been largely filled with some of the best young players in the county.

With no less that eight players representing Norfolk this season with a further three who were a major part of the squad from last season.

These players could potentially be the future of Wroxham Football Club.

With playing young players week in week out there is always going to be an element of inconsistency, as they are still learning the game. But there is no better place for these players to learn.

For me we have had three players who have been outstanding this year, all playing in near enough every game this year racking up well over 100 appearances for the reserves between the three of them.

Danny Rust and Sam Harty have both been brilliant for me this year.

Danny at left back is 17 years old and to look at him you would not have thought he would be as competitive and have the quality he possesses but he has continued to surprise me and get better with every game he played - he has won the respect of the other players and staff at the club.

Sammy again 17 years old a central midfielder with great quality and tenacity, he has really made a difference for us this year with his quality on the ball and his work rate off it.

However my choice for Player of the Season is Jamie George, who has been almost talismanic for the reserves this season.

There has been very few games where he has played and not scored, which is why he has piped the other two to the post as without his contribution this season we may have been in trouble.

Jamie has come through the youth team and has started to get himself in the first team picture, which is a credit to him.

I am especially pleased with the way Jamie dealt with being sent out on loan to Yarmouth Town FC which is two leagues higher, he came back a better player but still had the great attitude he left with.

All three have a way to go to fulfil their potential but there is no better club for them to do this at.

The exciting thing about working with these young lads is that they will carry on to get better."
